Join Pauline Willis, AFA Director and CEO in conversation with artist Eric Fischl.
Eric Fischl is an internationally acclaimed American painter and sculptor. Born in New York in 1948, his achievements throughout his career have made him one of the most influential figurative painters of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. He works in multiple mediums including painting, sculpture and prints and is mostly known for his large scale, figurative paintings of middle-class American life.
Fischl has exhibited extensively throughout the United States and Europe. Solo exhibitions of his work have been held in international institutions including the Albertina, Vienna in 2014; the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Malaga in 2010 and the Kestnergesellschaft, Hannover in 2007-2008. His work has also been included in exhibitions at major institutions such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art; Musée Beaubourg, Paris; The Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Parrish Museum. Fischl’s work has been featured in over a thousand publications.
Eric Fischl is a Fellow at both the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the American Academy of Arts and Science. He lives and works in Sag Harbor, NY with his wife, the painter April Gornik.
