Join the AFA for an exclusive visit to Edward Hopper’s private Greenwich Village Studio, where the artist lived and worked alongside his wife Jo from 1913 until his death in 1967 at the age of 84. Located in a Greek Revival Townhouse overlooking Washington Square, the studio is now overseen by NYU’s Silver School of Social Work.

The small, spartan top-floor studio houses Hopper’s handmade easel and manual printing press—the spokes of which he used as a hat rack—as well as a portrait of Edward by Jo and other portraits of Hopper and his wife by renowned photographers Arnold Newman and Berenice Abbott. Still visible are the large skylights that pour light into the space and the double windows looking out onto the park, a subject Hopper would often revisit during his 54 years there
