AFA members are invited to a special, curator-led tour of Wangechi Mutu: Intertwined led by Margot Norton, Allen and Lola Golding Curator at the New Museum.
We are thrilled to offer this before-hours tour of the newest major solo exhibition of Wangechi Mutu (b. 1972), a former recipient of the AFA’s Cultural Leadership Award. The exhibition is made up of over one hundred paintings, collages, performances, videos, and sculptures created over the course of her twenty-five year career. Her long-standing exploration of camouflage, transformation, and mutation are present in this exhibition that engages with themes of feminism, colonialism, globalization, and the African Diaspora.
Wangechi Mutu: Intertwined features traditional folklore and historical references in conversation with Afrofuturism and interspecies symbiosis. Simultaneously personal and universal, Mutu’s works present a new vision for our contemporary reality and a radically reshaped future.
